Revolutionary Spearfishing News Video

Spearfishing News - 117lb Cobia
Today the Top Shots Channel launched their first revolutionary spearfishing news video. This unique concept features any news worthy spearfishing video footage. This way guys get their great achievements and moments 'aired'.

This is slightly different from the 'Top Shots' Series where the 'best of the best' spearing shots are featured. This is more of a current events and news worthy video show. So if you go out on a spearfishing adventure and have a fantastic day at sea or come across something very unique ... or even something funny and manage to capture the action on your Go Pro, mini cam or even cell phone send it in. (contact - topshotsvideo@gmail.com)

In this first news edition Aimrite spearguns have sponsored a speargun to a lucky winner who shares the video on their FaceBook profile. So if you want to stand a chance at winning an Aimrite speargun then share the love and share this link: http://youtu.be/SfNgAKfjXsE

It is aslo good to hear what you guys think ... so post a comment and let me know what you think of this video.

Cheers

Top Shots - New Spearfishing Video Series

Top Shots - The Best Spearfishing Shots Series

In The Zone Productions the company that makes the Onefish spearfishing DVDs has just launched a new video series online. It's actually super cool! The whole idea is to find the most epic spearfishing shots on film and then skype call the guy and get all the details. Then put it down in a seriously hot little vid for all to see on line.

I guess there are loads of guys out there getting epic shots on GoPro and other video cams. The problem is that often they dont have enough footage to make a complete film or segment or have the skills to edit down the videos in a cool sleek way. This video concept will probably appeal most to these guys, and they will be able to get there epic spearfishing footage out and edited.

Here is the first episode here:
Top Shots - Spearfishing Series - Ian Brookes - Australia

As always it's not all that simple with loads of guys already submitting their footage for consideration. So I am sure only the choice vids will make the cut. The guys who get chosen also stand to win some cool prizes from Ultimate Spearfishing Magazine Subscriptions to spearguns and more.

If you want to get your insane spearfishing shots on ‘Top Shots’ then email: topshotsvideo@gmail.com

It would also be super cool if you could let me know what you think of these videos and the concept. Just post a comment below.

Weekends Spearfishing In KZN

Koos Jordaan - Large Sailfish -  Cape Vidal
This weekend saw some of the coldest water we have spearfished in KZN. On Sunday the water was a fridged 17 deg on the North Coast. The forecast looked good for Monday so we decided to extend the weekend and get away from the cold water by venturing to Cape Vidal with Koos Jordaan.

The water there was a bit water 21-22deg and we got some great Wahoo between 16-18 kg, some couta and a decent sized Cobia arround 18kg. Koos got a nice big Sailfish that was the cherry on the top of a great day.

Gary Uys - 23 Kob
Back home the guys dived the KZN trials on Sunday. Although the water was very cold at least it was reasonably clean. Gary Uys got a brilliant Kob, this with his 10 fish total gave him first place in the trial. Second was Sean Burns .. who was also diving with Gary! Do you think they found the fish??? I know some of the more competitive guys would have been pretty bleak at not placing well, especially since 'Burnsy's' competitive diving is strictly speaking a 'social' affair. ...... well so he says!

The results are as follows:

  1. Gary Uys
  2. Sean Burns
  3. Brent Borstlap
  4. Guy Le Meme
  5. Carl Werner
  6. Corry Versluis
  7. Iain Ewing
  8. John Girdza
  9. Brandon Barth
  10. Niel Barnard
  11. Calvin

The next trials will be next year and probably on the south coast.

The weather and ocean forecast this week looks a bit bleak and it does not look like there is much chance of it warming up just yet.

And talking about cold and warm waters here is a segment out of the one fish film. The one section is in the Arctic circle with sub 10deg water and the other is in the Persian Gulf with plus 28deg water!!

Spearfishing in Angola - 50kg Prodigal Son

Here is another story from Angola, this time its about spearfishing and a massive 50kg Cobia / Prodigal Son. I know a couple guys who are commercial divers up that side of the west coast of Africa. They all tell amazing stories of how good the spearfishing is .. especially off Angola.
Drew with a 50kg Prodigal Son spearfished of Northern Angola

Here is Drews account that he mailed through with the pictures:
My fish was shot at about 11m down in around 32m of water here in Northern Angola. My first dive for the day. I still chinged Gerhard Vosloo to see who was going to tie the down line onto the SBM. He lost so i got first dive down the anchor chains. I levelled off at around 11m. There were loads of Kingy's swimming about but i was waiting for a decent snapper to make an appearance. As we normally do, just before i was about to come up, i turned around and saw this dark shape sliding in! It came up level with me and within a good range. And i just picked my spot and let it fly. Hit it a couple of cm above the pec fin and rolled it over! I was pretty stoked and swimming the fish up i was still thinking this is pretty heavy! Only once it was on deck did i realise just how big, and obviously once it was on the scale, Totally Stoked!

A bit of a bitter pill for Gerhard. He'd seen it 4 days previously at another buoy about 10 miles away. That was after the working diver in the water did a back flip cause this "shark" was swimming up to him!  He got kitted up quickly, got impatient, pulled of a long shot and just managed to graze it. He still said as we were kitting up. I bet you we'l see that prodigal today. Then he lost the ching and he said when he heard the gun go off he just new. True enough the graze was on the fishes back, but its mine! Ha ha!
Hope the pictures make it through. This is the first Internet connection we've had in 4 weeks. And its iffy.

Enjoy
Cheers
Drew
