Sunrise Point Cranking

Well there was no diving today, but the surf was going off. Sunrise Point was ballistic and best of all I had it all to myself. It would have been cool to have a mate enjoy it with me but 10 others would have killed it!

The Quiksliver Goodwave was held yesterday and Shane Thorne pipped Dan Redman in the last few seconds to take the glory ... better luck next time Dan.

I am off to Mozambique tomorrow .... I know somer one has to do it ....it is hard ..sob
So I wont be around for the Salty Divers Club Meet next friday so we will have it the following Friday ...

Anyway I am sure I will have lots to report when I get back.

Surfs Up - Quicksilver Good Wave

Hey guys,

The swell is pumping a solid 6-8 ft swell, its a little all over the place and more east than I thought.
This is not going to help as it needs to be more south for our points to handle the swell. So we are probably going to have to sit this one out :-( bummer!

However the surf is pumping in Durban Newpier and the Quicksilver Good Wave is on!! Flip if I had the time I would head out there and check it out .... but work always seems to come first.

Spearo whats up?

After reporting a rather quiet week ends spearfishing, I got 2 reports of fish being hammered. One mate got 5 cuta all over 10kg, strange thing was that he was the only one who saw fish!!! He must have done something right??

Another mate got 8 snoek ....and again his mates diving along the same stretch of coast saw squat!

The sea is still big and the wind she is blowing!! But you can already see good banks forming on the points!! Yippy!

Spearfishing Update

Hey guys,

Nothing too exciting to report on from this weekend. there was some diving and surfing on Saterday, but other than that .... no bells or whistles.

Sunday was blown out and it is still pumping South West now! The rain will no doubt have an effect on the vis and I see there is some swell around. The forecast says that the wind will only stop tomorrow late so with a bit of luck Wednesday will be surfable, only problem is the high tide first thing in the morning.

I am not to stressed about the dive ... as I am off to Tofu for a 10 days :-) yippy!!

Having fun trying to track down some good gps marks ... so if you have any ....you do know "sharing is caring"

All fun Coatesman

Weekend Spearo Report

Well it not often I get to say it was all happening on the weekend. Normally on the week end the wind is blowing and the vis is poo ..... basically "you should have been here during the week" kinda thing.

This week end was great, the conditions were pretty good and there wer some nice fish around. I went out with my mate Willy on his maiden voyage with his new boat. W got a whole bunch of snoek and I even sneaked in a cuta.

Most guys got a snoek or two and the odd cuta was also shot. Not bad :-)

This week looks good for diving until Thursday when the swell is picking up and the surf will be pumping ..... oh gee its going to be so hard to work this week :-)

Vidal Comp

As you have heard there is a boat limit to the Vidal Comp. The organizers have started a priority list, and those on the list will secure their slots in the comp.

I suggest you let me know if you are wanting to take part, get your name down and at least that way you wont be disappointed. Act fast as I know there was already a number of names down and an email has already been sent out to those on the Wahoo list.

Anyway the sea is looking lovely, the swell is smallish and there is some vis for a bugg dive. Wish I did not have to work!!!

See Ya

Spearfishing News

Hey guys,

After a fairly event less weekend its back to the grind stone. There was some diving to be had, but no bells and whistles. The vis was more than good enough for a bugg hunt and I saw a number of guys diving, but no fish?

I just looked at the sea, it was very low so it was hard to tell if it had cleaned up with the west. I thought that we would get very good water by now! The tide is high in the morning and there will be less chance of it being churnned up, but there is some swell forcast.

Also hot off the press is the news that the Wahoo Winter Game Fish has been given the green light. The 'Powers at Be' were giving the guys the run around and at one stage it looked like it was not going to happen.
That said they have restricted the number of boats to 30!!! this means that if you are not in quick you could very well miss out.

The forms and details for registration are still getting finalized ...but as soon as they are available I will post them.

Anyway thats all for now....

Barrels and more Barrels

The dive has not been good ....but the barrels have!!

There has been a strong ground swell out the south and it has made for some seriously chunky barrels. A little under the weather with flu I got the call this morning that it was on. Hauled my ass out of bed and got out there.

And it was chuncky!! I managed to get into one or two waves that just turned to caverns of delight. But for every wave I got 2 went by, I was just not able to get into them on my 6'o" ...... keep telling myself that 'Kelly' is a year older and a centimeter taller and would probably be riding his favorite 5'10"!! Ok he is 6kg lighter ....... and has just won the second of 2 ASP events back to back!!

Anyway it looks like we are in for an epic winter surfwise ...... I am getting ready for it!!

The forecast looks bleak for the next few days and week end ....... the kiteboarding will be good ...

Spearfishing ..whats up?

The sea has been looking good the last few days, I have been out of the dive with sinus problems ... dam bleak. So I have been flushing them out surfing some nice clean barrels that we have had the last 2 days.

Today the south east was up and made everything choppy, the vis looked ok tho. And I probably would have dived.

The long term forecast is bleak with loads of easts through to the weekend. Its a pity the land breazes had just started and I was looking forward to some more good surf.

Talking about the weekend its the Salty Divers Club meet on Friday nite. If you have never been before pull in. It is very chilled, we normally just throw some meat on the braai and share a laugh or 2 over a beer. All are welcome so pull in and come see whats going down.

Any way back to the grind stone
